The Abraham Savitzky papers 1949-1989.

The Savitzky Papers have been organized into nine series based on type of material. These series include: Honors, 1957-59, (1983-86); Presentations, 1951-83 + [n.d.]; Manuscripts, (1949-69), 1989 + [n.d.]; Patents, (1950-68), 1982; Projects, 1953, (1964-70); Reports, 1952-64; Research, 1959-67; Data, 1960, 1976 + [n.d.]; and Correspondence, 1955-83. Within each series, items have been arranged chronologically so as to provide the researcher information on the way in which Savitzky's career and projects progressed. Items not labeled with a date have been placed at the end of each series.

Savitzky was born on May 29, 1919 in New York City. He received his Bachelor's degree from the New York State College for Teachers in 1941. He obtained a Master's degree and Ph. D. in physical chemistry from Columbia University in 1947 and 1949. In 1950 he began a career with the Perkin-Elmer Corporation. Most of his work with Perkin-Elmer focused on computer-aided analytical chemistry, data reduction, infrared spectroscopy, time-sharing systems, and computer plotting. He retired in 1985. He hol...
